Hoover F5914-900: HOOVER EQUALS QUALITY

I own a Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac with Clean Surge. Years ago I used a neighbors Hoover steam vac and was very impressed. Then I moved overseas and had wood floors. I am now back in the states with wall-to-wall carpeting and a 1-yr old boxer. I purchased this based on my past experience with my neighbors.

I used Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac for the first time today. It was so easy to assemble. I used it on a hall runner. It took 10-oz cleaner/2-gal water. I have to agree with the other reviews, the dirty water container fills up very fast. Basically one clean water fill up requires emptying the dirty water twice. This was a bit annoying once I was in the cleaning mode.

I did not experience any leaks, so I guess I assembled it properly. Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac ran smooth and quiet and was so easy to maneuver. I haven't used the attachments yet, therefore cannot comment on their performance.

I only wish the Hoover cleaner on Amazon (128-oz) didn't have such an expensive shipping cost. I went to the local Home Depot for the solution (no pun intended). I recommend this quality, low cost cleaner for anyone contemplating purchasing one.

I shop for this Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac with Clean Surge in Oct-09 and used Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac on all our carpets. Used very hot water and white vinegar only (5 oz). We have a hot water heater at the sink. Results were extremely good versus previous cleaning which was provided by a service for around $200. This Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac cleans quickly and does an exceptionally good job of drying the carpet. In two of our rooms, the carpet was completely dry the same day - elsewhere by the following morning. Vinegar/hot water mix cleaned almost all spots. Vinegar smell goes away as it dries. Sudsy/stiff feeling of carpet fibers all gone. Comments elsewhere about paying attention to assembly/use instructions are well-founded. Read the book before assembly/use. Mixed results using hand tool - a little difficult to set up, and a little hard to get solution flowing properly - but still a great carpet machine. Easy to use, works well, and pays for itself on first use.

I like this carpet shampooer. It works well and does a very good job of pulling the water back out of the carpet. So once you finish, the carpet dries in an hour or so...which is a real plus for me. I'd borrowed a friend's Bissell a few times before deciding to purchase my own shampooer, and I had to set up fans and wait a few hours before the carpet would dry. My only "complaint" is all the tubing for the upholstery attachments, it frequently comes loose from the clips on the back of the shampooer and gets in the way. So if you don't use the upholstery attachment, you may find it convenient to stash all of that in a closet somewhere! All in all, a very good product.

This Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac with Clean Surge is my first steam cleaner. At first, I contemplated replacing my carpet, 14 years old. I realized I could bought a steam cleaner for less than the cost to have my carpets done professionally. Why not try? After reviewing a variety of brands and models I settled on the Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac because I liked the idea of the Clean Surge and found more favorable reviews than some other popular brands and models. Plus, on Amazon, the cost was substantially less than any discount store, and free shipping! I must admit that I went over every inch of carpeting in my home 4+ times, but it was well worth it and it needed it. No other professional cleaning service ever spent that much time or did anywhere near the quality that I got out of this machine. I thought the edger comes quite close to the edges of the room and did a fine job getting into the corners. Even after going over some worn areas many times, applying several layers of water, the suction was strong enough that the carpet was dry in the morning (I finished around 9:00 PM). My carpet looks very good with 14 years of wear. Though the water tank holds only a gallon, and it was a pain to have to stop, empty and refill frequently, it went farther than one would think. When the unit arrived, assembling the cleaner took only a little time, but no experience or expert skills using tools was necessary. But, be careful. Unit and parts are plastic, yuk. The generous electrical cord is long enough to cross any of my standard or slightly oversized rooms. Would recommend this to anyone, though I have no other with which to compare.

I want sure what to expect after reading so many diverse Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac with Clean Surge reviews. We have only used Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac once and it worked great. The carpet in our bedroom is old and the dogs have certainly soiled it over the years. The Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac with Clean Surge did a great job getting the carpet clean. I was particularly impressed with how little dampness was left when we were done cleaning. The brushes are great. We had to clean them off a few times because they were so effective at pulling the dog hair (Golden Retrievers) out of the carpet.

I can't disagree with some reviews about some of the parts being or seeming very cheaply made. We will be careful and hope for the best. The separate tanks are awesome. Very easy to fill and empty.

I am absolutely not a professional carpet person or reviewer. I would highly recommend this unit for the budget minded person. I could not afford the more expensive units with all the fancy gadgets. For our purposes this unit is perfect. My only negative comment is that the squeegee attachment for doing hard floors is very hard to find and is expensive.

Hoover F5914-900, Calling it a "SteamVac" is misleading since it doesn't steam, only uses hot water. However, it really cleans the carpet so no complaint. I had had my carpets steam-cleaned professionally but still had spots. The SteamVac took the spots out. Now I just use plain water every two or three months and my carpets stay looking spotless. May I mention that I have two dogs, one that is completely housebroken but the other, not so perfect (I do immediately clean the spots). It also does a good job on my vinyl floors (even just using plain water). I use a towel to get the last few water drops and underneath the overhanging cabinets. I couldn't be more pleased with it. In fact, I liked it so much I bought one as a gift for my son and his wife. They have a high traffic room in which the carpet gets extremely dirty. It did an amazing job in cleaning their carpet.

The Hoover F5914-900 replaced a Bissell 9400 Proheat 2x cleaner that we purchased in 2006. The Bissell was initially purchased because my wife really wanted hardwood floors, but all I could give her was a cleaner carpet. And it did a good job, especially in 2007 when we got our first dog. Since then I have used the Bissell on a monthly basis.

Unfortunately over the last 2 months the Bissell has been having difficulty sucking water back out of the carpet. Cleaning out clumps of hair and even taking apart the unit couldn't solve this problem so I picked up the Hoover SteamVac to replace it. This review is meant primarily to compare and contrast the two devices.

First off, the Hoover is significantly lighter than the Bissell Proheat. Unfortunately this is mainly because the Hoover is a whole lot flimsier. The plastic is thinner and the unit feels much less polished. The Bissell is also more maneuverable. Where I could bend the Bissell under a table, the Hoover just doesn't have the clearance to get in those hard to reach spots.

However, the old fashioned almost industrial shape of the Hoover offers several advantages over the Bissell. Whereas the Proheat 2x uses one container to house both clean and dirty water, the SteamVac uses two separate bins. This allows you to see how much clean water is left. With the Bissell I would sometimes work for several minutes on an empty bladder because there was no easy way to tell how much clean water was left while vacuuming. Emptying the dirty water is also easier without having to deal with a 2-in-1 solution.

While the effectiveness of the different brush styles (rolling versus spinning) is similar, their ability to deal with pet hair appears to differ. With the Bissell hair and carpet fibers tended to wrap around the rollers, whereas the Hoover collects hair around the outside of the brushes. In addition the SteamVac's brushes can be removed which allows for easier maintenance.

Overall both devices performed their duties well. On paper the Hoover appears to clean better, as evidenced by the amount of dirty water I pulled from a regularly cleaned carpet. However, the Bissell was aging poorly so those last few months didn't properly reflect it's cleaning ability. In the end I'd suggest the SteamVac over the Proheat 2x if you're cleaning up after pets. Otherwise the extra $50 for the Bissell will get you more features, better handtools, and a more refined machine.

I bought this steam cleaner to clean my light biege carpeting. This cleaner works fantastic. The suction on the water pick up was amazing. My carpets were dry in less than 1 hour. The drt that was pulled out of the carpet was amazing. The carpet was laid in our new home 4 years ago and had never been cleaned. I did not think it was that dry. But I guess with the contactors and all the moving in caused more dirt than realized. After I cleaned the carpet and when dried, I rinsed it with hot clean water, which pulled the rest of the soap out. I really think that this steam cleaner did a better job than having someone come and clean the carpets for $500.00. I have over 2100 sq. ft. of carpet and it was easy to use. The brushes, drain tank and fill tank are easy to take off and put back on. The steam cleaner is not heavy and easy to move around. I got the bare floor attachment and did the bare floors, it worked perfect. The only thing is all parts are plastic, but what isn't today. It is well worth the money of $150.00. I would definitly recommend this steam cleaner to family and friends.

I buy this Hoover F5914-900 cleaner on a Sunday and on Wednesday it was delivered...fast shipping! I put it together the next morning and went to work! OMG! This is the BEST cleaner I have ever had! I have an Oreck that I have hated since I bought it. The belt breaks and no easy task to replace it. You HAVE to use Oreck Cleaner as it comes dispensed in a bottle that ATTACHES to the cleaner. Expensive. But now with my Hoover I can use only hot water if I choose or any cleaner. It is amazing. Those scrubbing brushes work on those stains and dirt. The suction is enough to pull your carpet up (not really). The tanks that some refer to as bothersome didn't bother me at all. Easy to unload, throw out dirty water and I mean dirty or to refill the other container. I suggest you to buy this cleaner while you can still find them. No joke! well here goes, Some great features include the ease of use and it actually cleans the carpets the bad is the dirty water container is smaller than the clean water contaner by half! so you chang the water often. the clean water container leaks slightly. But my main beef is it is not a real steam cleaner it just blow mildly warm air onto the carpet! Kinda sucky. But it does have great sucking power it really gets the carpets dry! I have been paying for carpeting cleaning the past two years! I have three wonderful dogs that unfortunately have left many pee stains on my light colored carpet. I have the carpet cleaners come out and they lift out some of it and for a short time the carpet looks better. I chose the natural route for cleaning because I don't like chemicals or anything that will attract more dirt. I used vinegar, baking soda, drops of lemon oil and very hot water and it works great. You have to let it dry and repeat in problem areas but overall it works great and I wish I had bought this a long time ago! Have patience and repeat in those problem spots and you'll be surprised at how well this works. It's very easy to use and we even steam vac'd our truck and it smells so clean and new again! Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac is the best. I had Regina SteamCleaner for about 9 years until I bought Hoover F5914-900 yesterday. Hoover is made in USA and the quality shows in overall design and operation. This is as close as it gets to the Hoover pro machine I rented once that sells for $1099. Amazing cleaning power with 12amp motor and ease of operation. Quality heavy duty durable plastics used, makes it a better value all together. Consumer product still made in USA, not China or Mexico is worth the price tag itself, you will not find a better value in this price range. I looked at Bissell machines also but did not like its overall design, somewhat cheap thin shiny plastic look and low web review ratings.

Use as directed with hot water to loosen the dirt, and go slow give the machine chance to break the dirt and suck it out from the rug. Tanks are smaller than in the pro machine, but machine is lighter and smaller than $1099 Pro Hoover SteamVac monster.

Everything worked well so far. The water left on a tile, but not a great problem, did not seek to wooden floors, but Hoover still e-mail and said I could use the products of SteamVac Floormate. Everything is plastic, so I tried the products gently. Power Tools are nice, but do not absorb too much water, you must go through the same area several times to get water. I have Hoover F5914-900 on my car, carpets, tiles, and use Hoover F5914-900 on my hardwood floors and plaster, so I have the right solutions. I am fixing to buy bare land. I do not know what it does, but I have to use. I also used hand-washing tool for random things in the house and cleaned up many items. It 'very heavy chemicals brought me the light, but after using professional cleaning products for many years, have to clean all the way through she does not deserve even to hold his own.

The Hoover F5914-900 really cleans carpets well. In my area has the worst cleaning of carpets and carpet cleaning companies. I recommend the following to make a clean success

.
1. I add warm water with a little 'really hot water temperature. When the water for the spray nozzle, it is really cool, making it warmer. Bissell uses a heater, but it may be that, without a significant reduction in engine power. Best supplement.
2. the patient. Take your time and go to the areas really bad. You must pre-treatment and hand washing difficult areas, but also professionals. Do not expect a diamond from coal. Not always work.
3. I cleaned often. I have a carpet that I waited too long, and not come out since then. Professionals can and can not. Great lesson learned.

Have fun with it. I can not believe how much filth there is in my "personal" is too big to clean when I left to be desired. I saved more than the price of cleaning this weekend.

Hoover F5914-900, If your new machine LEAKS, see note #2 below. I am just amazed at how many people write that their machine leaked from day one, and they returned it. It will leak if you skip a crucial one-time set-up step.

Paid $170 at Best Buy. This is my first carpet cleaner so I have nothing to compare it to except my own expectations. Even though the name is SteamVac, like all the others in this class of cleaners, there is no Steam to it. That's just false marketing, but all the manufacturers do it, so no particular knock on Hoover.

First, let me say I'm ashamed to admit that our carpet hadn't been cleaned in 4 years, and that we live in the country where lots of dirt gets tracked in from outside. So the carpet was pretty darn dirty. The Hoover F5914-900 did a very nice job the first time I used it - a drastically noticeable difference in the appearance of the carpet. The water in the dirty water receptacle was black. Did it return the carpet to new condition? No, impossible. Will it take another treatment or two to really get it clean? Since the front of the machine is made of clear plastic, you can see when you're vacuuming up water.
